PHOTO ESSAY

At the crack of dawn, Mr Ngai will make his way to MacRitchie Reservoir for his long-distance walk. Before embarking on his trail, he ensures that he does a proper warm up which includes push-ups, muscle-ups and stretching. (Photo: Salwa Nadhirah)

Since getting some backpains some two years back, Mr Ngai decided to pace himself and walk instead of jog. He now walks with a group, whom he met at MacRitchie, during the weekends as part of his individual training. (Photo: Salwa Nadhirah)

After the hour-long training sessions, Mr Ngai would take this time to catch up on life with his other team members. Sometimes, they would have a meal at a nearby coffeeshop to mark the end of their day. (Photo: Salwa Nadhirah)

As part of my Graded Assignment for a Photojournalism module - I decided to feature Team Strong Silvers, a motivational team comprising of a quartet aged 65-72. They are essentially a calisthenic team who performs stunts to encourage Singaporeans, both young and old, to keep a healthy lifestyle.

This photo essay follows the life of Mr Ngai Hin Kwok, a founding member of the team. I’ve chosen to do a Narrative photo essay to shed some light on the ageing population issue in Singapore - in terms of the Health and Wellness sector.
I wanted to show that age is just a number and it doesn't limit what you can do. Through my photos, I want people to be inspired by Mr Ngai's story and to not be afraid to be different.
